Four Wheel Drives have special capabilities, but it takes skill to use these features safely and correctly. During our training day, you will be taught how to drive a 4WD safely and confidently without incurring damage to yourself, your vehicle or the environment.

By combining our safe and responsible approach to training with the beauty of the Australian countryside and bush we have created a truly unique 4WD course and learning experience. The courses are a structured learning program, they are flexible in their application and provide the trainee with necessary skills required for off road driving.

The Basic Course Covers

SRODRV001B - Drive and recover a 4WD vehicle
SROODR002A - Plan outdoor recreation activities

  • 4WD driving techniques in different terrain
  • Conduct routine maintenance checks
  • General radio communication & convoy procedures
  • Basic recovery techniques, stall/start recovery
  • Steep ascents/descents & water crossings
  • Identify terrain, track conditions and obstacles
  • Trip preparation and safety issues
  • Environmental issues & low impact camping

The Advanced Course Covers

If you wish to participate in the advanced course and you require a Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment, please be advised that you need to demonstrate competence in SRODRV001B/SROODR002A as a pre-requisite.

Fitness and Experience

  • Training sessions are designed for people of all ages.
  • Participants must be 18 years and over and must have an unrestricted and current drivers licence.
  • Fitness level is not important and experience is not required.
  • Training sessions are quite energetic and intense, very hands on, the theoretical and practical sessions are alternated throughout the day.

What to Bring/Wear

  • Own fully fuelled up 4WD/AWD vehicle.
  • Warm clothes all year round. It can get very hot in summer, so we suggest packing some light clothes for the day.
  • Solid footwear at all times.
  • Any recovery gear you may have.
  • UHF Radio built in or hand held.
  • BYO Food and drink (no BBQ’s allowed).
